How to start a profitable egg supply and distribution business.

Starting an egg distribution business, could be a full time or part-time business. Starting an egg business is easy and profitable and you can start today. The first phase is to identify your customers, then find a reputable source, that will provide high quality eggs and at reasonable price. Eggs are of various sizes and grades, and its better to have a mix of large, small and medium to cater for different clients. The ideal place will be to register with a farm, and sort out arrangements about frequency of collection and delivery. Eggs can also be collected at egg depots for further distribution to retailers and consumers. The targeted clients will determine your entry point to the business, you can be a big time player or small to medium player . You don't need a lot of money to start the business, its a low capital startup that you can venture into with 30,000,and expand your capital base as you progress. The key to success is marketing, vecause if you cant network you cant sell. The challenge is not money or the products{eggs} your ability to do great networking. I was amazed to find out that the demand for egg is huge. H Farm owners and bulk distributors, prefer having 30 customers who buys from them regularly than having 3 or 5 major buyers. The logic is with about 30 customers , at least 15 will be available on every sales day, thus creating a steady income. Major egg suppliers comes from outside Lagos. The bulk of eggs consumed in Lagos comes from Ogun, Ondo and Oyo. The farms in Lagos are attached to notable merchants, but smart business people prefer to get their supply outside Lagos because its cheaper. When you factor in cost of fuel, stress and unnecessary roadblocks, sourcing in your locality makes better business sense. Egg crates are important for the success of your business, plastic, paper or decorative seal- able crates are some of the options. The crates could be small or big depending on your egg sizes. While purchasing your egg crates, make arrangements for both the large size and small sizes. If you are transporting it over along distance, the use of big crates are advisable, because with big crates, the eggs will have space and you will experience lesser damages. When delivering eggs to retailers use the small ones, because when you use the big crates for delivery, the eggs look very small but with a small crate, small eggs look big. Starting with egg distribution and supply depends on how big or small you want to start,as you are your own boss you set the pace. You can decide to be a retailer, a wholesaler and you can combine the two. The key to profit is to set a goal, determine how many crates you want to sell in a week and at what level, may be wholesale or retail. 100 crates @850 = 85,000. when sold per crate @900 =90,000 naira. A profit of 5,000 naira. The same 100 crates sold on retail basis yields 1,200 naira/crate which is a total profit of 120,000 naira only. The difference is enormous and potential huge as you get this amount of profit even with wholesales with the right niche. The margin could even be much higher depending on your source. Superstores, shops, schools, eateries are a few of the places you can supply to and make money. Join our league of distributors and make money today. See

FOOD SECURITY NETWORK.

This is simply the partnership between producers, processors, marketers and financial institutions. The race to ensure food security is hinged on production backed by finances.

The producers are the farmers that are directly involved in production. The producers phase can be further divided into sub heads to facilitate better production, lets analyse the poultry sector; farmers have a choice of rearing the various types of bird that generate revenue.

The production phase could be short, long term or seasonal when you consider rearing towards festivities.Every aspect of production is important and is a valuable segment of the food security network.

The production phase is regarded as successful, when the expected by-products are available at stipulated times with a profit margin to all stakeholders. The processors and producers work in sync to achieve a profitable production cycle.

When the products are ready, the processors ensures that they are packaged in various forms to suit the market.

In poultry, the chicken can be processed and sold as plain, smoked, stewed, barbecue,or as fried.

The eggs are collected and processed as egg powder, this value addition increases the  profit margin and prevents food loss/waste by preventing egg glut.

This chart explains further;. The egg powder plant, another money spinner in the poultry chain.

The demand for egg powder is very high especially with food vendors, eateries and restaurants, the inclusion of an egg powder plant in the production cycle will further boost revenue generation, food availability and accessibility.

VETERINARY MEDICINE: FACTORS AFFECTING EGG PRODUCTION IN LAYING FLOCK.

VETERINARY MEDICINE: FACTORS AFFECTING EGG PRODUCTION IN LAYING FLOCK. VETERINARY MEDICINE: FACTORS AFFECTING EGG PRODUCTION IN LAYING FLOCK. The laying cycle in chicken depends on the breed of the chicken, management factors and bio-security measures. There is actually a pattern these birds conform to,but if all other factors are not constant, then the birds will not lay as expected. Laying birds start to lay at about 21weeks,but not all birds in the flock will start at this time, only about 5% of flock start here. The egg laying pattern is a progressive pattern with more and more birds coming into lay as weeks increase. The following are some of the factors that affect egg laying that reduces the progressive increase expected; 1)Breed, some light breeds come into lay early while the heavier breeds come on later. 2) Body weight, the body weight around the laying period is 1.5kg, birds that have not attained this weight, will have delayed onset of lay. Overweight and underweight birds usually have delayed onset and produce smaller eggs. 3)lighting management, light stimulates egg production, thus it is imperative to increase day length by artificial lighting by 2/3 hours. This will increase egg production by 20/30%. 4) Temperature control; when temperature rises above 28 degrees, the production level and quality of eggs is reduced.Seasonal/sporadic temperature change reduces egg production by 10%.The maintenance of temperature below 28 degrees is very vital to production. 5) Management factors, simple but efficient yet effective techniques are necessary to ensure proper egg production.Strict bio security protocols to prevent entry of diseases can eliminate disease occurrence by 90%.These management practices include proper feeding, housing and medication uses when needed. 6)Disease control is very vital to egg production, hence the necessary drugs, vaccines and supplements must be provided to prevent diseases and control spread when an out break occurs. All these factors work together to ensure that eggs are produced at the right time with expected frquency and size.

PESTS (RATS) AND FOOD SAFETY.

The role of pests in transmission of diseases cannot be overemphasized and thus steps must be taken to prevent entry of such pests in the food industry.

The major pest to contend with in the food industry is rat.Rats cause sever economic losses along side transmission of diseases.Rats in the food industry can be excluded by blocking any cracks/openings in the building.Food can be stored in crates in stores away from rats.

Rat baits can be used outside the food holding area while traps can be used in the food processing/packaging area.

Hazard of rats in the food industry: 1) fecal contamination of food. 2) urine contamination of food products. 3) food waste due to consumption by rats.

Rat urine has been linked to Lassa fever, thus contamination of food with urine is a risk to man.The infection in man manifests with fever, muscular pain, generalized weakness.
Vomiting and diarrhea are also observed in affected patients.
