RABIES : EXPLAINING IT TO KIDS.

Did you know that rabies kills one person every 9 minutes? Did you know that 59,000 people die of rabies worldwide every year?

Did you know that almost half of the victims are children under 15 years of age? Did you know that vaccinating 70% of dog population in an area breaks the dog-human cycle of rabies, thus eliminating rabies in such areas?

Did you know that vaccination of your dogs, cats and monkeys is a sure way to eliminate rabies? Did you know that the fastest way to change a paradigm or introduce a concept that targets kids is by gamifying the concept or creating songs that are interactive?

Did you also know that creating awareness on public health issues can also be accomplished by creating stories, posters, coloring books for kids e.t.c?

Use this to teach in schools and communities while gamifying rabies for better explanation.

Rabies: The devastating effect of rabies.

EDUCATION AND EGG POWDER!!!.

The level of education in developing countries has nose-dived and data gathered showed that fewer children are going to school. This trend is fueled by the fact that many of the parents are indigent and need all the help they can get from their children and other family members on the farm.

Communities with higher percentage of children in school were encouraged by the school feeding programme. These communities are beneficiaries of a system that provides a meal a day for students in school, this not only increased the number of students in school but also more healthy children who were hitherto malnourished.

This scheme also empowered more women as these host communities engage the women to prepare the nutritious meals and distribute to schools. This scheme not only benefited the children alone but the community as a whole because of the level of education and economic power.

The scheme mainly use poultry and poultry products to feed the students. The meal is often accompanied by eggs or chicken as protein source. The school feeding programme has expanded its reach to more countries and engaging more people.
The school feeding programme has also raised the bar by encouraging host communities to venture into agriculture to rear chicken and plant vegetables . This will be a rallying point for the community that will engage more people and feed more.

The feeding programme could also make use of powdered eggs to achieve same results. In communities where the need is severe as in emergency situations such as after an earthquake or flooding. The egg powder is safe, handy and hygienically packed to deliver wholesome nutritious meals. The egg powder can be sent to various locations, over long distances and it will still be fresh.

The whole egg powder can be mixed with water or milk before frying. This can be combined with rice, potatoes or yam. In situations where children dont like vegetables, you can spice up the vegetables with the egg powder mixture for a more nutritious meal thats easily acceptable. Order for yours today.

The water hyacinth and the girl-child education..

The role of women in agriculture and nation building cannot be overemphasized.Majority of food production, from planting to processing, and sales are handled by the women. The women mostly take their girl -child to the farm at a very tender age because of the belief that the boys should be educated instead. In developing countries where they know the value of education but are financially constrained, still opt to fund the education of the boys. The number of boys in school out-way the number of girls, not only because of lack of funds, but also because of certain cultures that restricts girls during their monthly cycle. Girls miss school because of pain, ill heath and their monthly cycle. Girls in poor nation miss school basically because they lack the resources to buy sanitary towels, and they rather stay at home than be seen dripping blood. The use of rags, old clothes and papers are not only unhygienic but also dangerous. These are usually sources of infection because use and disposal expose them to health risk. The lack of running water or other sources of water makes the period so difficult, they will rather sit still in a carved up hole. Water hyacinth is a source of relief for the girls,as it not only provides means of livelihood for the parents, but keep them in school by production of durable super absorbent sanitary towels. Sanitary pads can be made from water hyacinth, these are made from a prototype and the production outfit is set up as a cottage industry. This employs the women in the community and also keeps the girls in school. Paper made from the water hyacinth can be used for exercise books that are easily accessible to the children. The Water Hyacinth Sanitary Pad is biodegradable sanitary pads out , the production of a locally made pad provides girls and women a low cost, biodegradable product that sustains income-generating jobs and provides girls with access to necessary personal hygiene products, with the goal of breaking the stigma around menstruation and keep girls in school. The jani pad is the product name of the pad made from water hyacinth, they are working with village volunteers to help women and girls.

STEPS TO ELIMINATE HUMAN RABIES!!!

Int'l groups launch new global framework to eliminate human rabies; The framework was a joint effort of the WHO, World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Global Alliance for the Control of Rabies (GARC).The effort is to adopt a plan of action that is expected to deliver prompt post-exposure prevention (PEP) for people in rabies endemic areas, as well as a framework for scaling up sustained, large-scale dog vaccination. Rabies occurs in more than 150 countries and territories “Rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination and timely immunization after exposure, but access to post-bite treatment is expensive and is not affordable in many Asian and African countries,” said Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General. “Vaccinating 70% of dogs regularly in zones where rabies is present can reduce human cases to zero,” said OIE Director-General Dr. Bernard Vallat. Rabies is a human infection that is transmitted usually through the saliva of an infected animal (most of the time dogs), either through its bite, scratch, or licking of a human's open wounds. It is estimated that worldwide, one person dies from rabies every 10 minutes, based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO). Four out of 10 people bitten by suspected rabid dogs are children below 15. To stop deaths caused by the vaccine-preventable viral disease, the new framework calls for three key actions:Making human vaccines and antibodies affordable Ensuring people who get bitten receive prompt treatment and Mass dog vaccinations to tackle the disease at its source. Philippines among 10 worst rabies-affected countries In the Philippines, 200 to 300 Filipinos die of rabies infection every year, making it among the top 10 countries with the worst rabies problem. For its part, the Philippine government has a National Rabies Prevention and Control Program under the DOH, which aims to eliminate rabies by 2020.
